Warning Signs Not To Ignore

Life can be busy. Whether you have work, school, family obligations, or social commitments, it seems like there is never enough time in the day to accomplish the to-do list. Unfortunately, we often see busy schedules being used as an excuse to avoid visiting the dentist for routine hygiene examinations and cleanings. Some people have the mindset that if they aren’t having a problem they don’t need to be seen. What they don’t realize is that I am able to treat many oral health problems in the early stages when I see an issue during a routine appointment. Whether you have had a hygiene examination recently or not, it is important to pay attention to warning signs with your teeth, gums and jaw. These warning signs can indicate a problem with your oral health that needs to be checked out as soon as possible:

Tooth Sensitivity

If you are experiencing tooth sensitivity while eating or drinking hot and cold items, your mouth may be warning you of a problem with your tooth enamel. Tooth enamel is the outer covering of your teeth, and when it is compromised, you may experience tooth sensitivity. Sensitivity issues can indicate a cavity, worn enamel, cracked teeth, or gum issues.

Bleeding Gums

It is not uncommon to have bleeding gums from time to time, but if it happens repeatedly, it can be an indication that you have gum disease. Gum disease is a common condition that affects a large percentage of adults.

Loose Teeth

This is a big indicator that you have severe gum disease. It can also occur after you have had trauma to your face.

While any of the issues above can happen at any time, patients who have regular hygiene examinations have a lower chance of experiencing these issues. If it has been some time since your last examination, now is a great time to schedule an appointment.
