Relax Before and During Treatment Without the Use of Sedation

Relax Before and During Treatment Without the Use of Sedation

There is a large percentage of adults who avoid visiting the dentist due to fear and phobia. In turn, this leads to complicated dental problems and the need for numerous treatments and repairs to restore oral health. To help combat this issue, many dental practices have used sedation dentistry as a way to relax patients to receive the treatment they need. The problem with this method is that patients are never overcoming their fears and the sedation is used more as a band-aid to cover the problem.

Dr. Michael Krochak has a unique approach and has specialized in treating phobic and anxious dental patients for over 38 years. He believes in listening to patients and taking a behavioral approach to helping patients overcome their feelings. He has open lines of communication with patients and explains treatments in detail and encourages patients to ask questions.

Tips to Help Patients Relax

Dr. Krochak’s entire team works together to create a comforting and relaxing environment. The office uses relaxation methods such as aromatherapy, noise reduction headphones, and head and neck pillows to keep you comfortable. We also recommend making certain adjustments to your daily routine to ensure that you are as relaxed as possible before your visit. We encourage patients to:

  • Schedule their appointments during an ideal time. Avoid times of high stress, such as after a long work day.

  • Avoid stimulants such as caffeine and sugar; perhaps enjoy a cup of warm chamomile tea.

  • Plan an exciting activity that you can look forward to after your appointment.

  • Listen to calming music on your way to the office.

  • Although we provide headphones, you can bring your own music, podcast, or even audiobook to listen to and pass the time.

  • Practice deep breathing or relax with yoga before your appointment.

We want patients to remember that modern dentistry has come a long way over the past few years. Treatments that you may remember from your youth are performed in a totally different way now. Dental techniques and state-of-the-art technology have not only increased patient comfort, but also drastically reduced treatment time for many procedures. We want to help you overcome your fears so you can achieve and maintain oral health for the rest of your life.
